Madrid Leads Lancers in 2011

Nevada baseball standout and former Silver Sox Carlos Madrid has been hired as McQueen High School head baseball coach. Madrid will take over the baseball program in 2011 after former head coach Brian Nelson stepped down to spend more time with his family. Nelson was with the team for 13 years and will continue to teach at McQueen.

McQueen athletic director Eric Borja said he had know about Madrid since his playing days in Northern Nevada, but hadn’t met him until the interview process began.“He’s well-known in this area, he’s 27 years old, he brings youth and excitement to the game and we hope that he can give the same excitement to our team,” Borja said of the decision to hire Madrid. “He’s definitely a coach who cares about kids and teaching kids baseball.”

Madrid is a Reed High graduate, he played for the Nevada Wolf Pack from 2002- 2005 and for the Reno Silver Sox from 2006-2008 where he hit .287 with 12 home runs, 98 RBIs and 106 runs scored.
